My, how time does drag on the chemo ward. Nick's nearly done this round, and fortunately has been allowed to sleep in his own bed for the night recently, due to the specifics of his medication schedule.

This time, Nick's not getting out until Saturday, but at least will be home for his birthday on Sunday.
A recent CT scan has revealed a blood clot in Nick's lung - so several weeks of Fragmin will be part of the plan. The CT scan has shown that the lung tumours have shrunk, and assuming that Nick's in remission, they'll gradually shrink to nothing over a several-month period.

The head CT scan showed that, although the two small lesions in the brain have shrunk, there are two more small ones as well. An MRI is being booked to give them a closer look. The on-call oncologist seemed to feel that they'd most likely be dead at this point.

Reports from University Hospital inform us that Tanja's dad, Richard, is doing much better. The blood infection is all cleared up, and the pneumonia is gradually getting better. With frequent transfusions of platelets, Richard's gradually feeling more like himself.

    Hello everyone! We got through another Christmas and New Year.   Both were pretty bleak.   We rented a beautiful cottage up in Tobermory again, but it was just me, Matthew and Vinnie.   Although the complete seclusion was nice, the lack of company was oppressive.   I can’t handle peace and quiet; I need loud music, tons of people around, kids wreaking havoc, Nick playing his ear-splitting tunes with hundreds of his friends, Vinnie playing drums, lots of parties and dancing. Admittedly, the Stalinist covid restrictions have limited any fun people can have anyway. Despite the isolation on the Bruce, we did come across some ridiculous people, irrationally terrified of covid, clearly brainwashed by the irresponsible fear-mongering media like the CBC, CNN, MSNBC etc.   As Matthew and I approached them on an empty trail, this one old man retreated into the trees, covered his face and growled at us from afar (at least 50 feet away).   “What are you doing here?”   “Hiking,” we

September 23rd, 2018 - End Game

I arrived at the cancer clinic at about 9:15 this morning, still wired after playing a great party in Bayfield, getting home at 2:00 am. Dr. Potvin had the results of the thoracic CT scan and the head MRI. The hope was that there might be on or two brain lesions responsible for Nick's dramatic neurological decline. No such luck. The cancer, grown chemo and radiation resistant, has proliferated in Nick's brain. There's no way to stop its growth, and it's ineroperable. Nick has days left. They're keeping Nick in hospital, as to send him home would result in horrific, traumatic consequences. The best they can do is try to make Nick's exit as peaceful as possible. Nick's six year battle is finally coming to an end. These six years have been trying, but we've not been without help, hope and support along the way. We love and deeply appreciate everyone who's had our backs during this time.
